Each of the 500 megawatt batteries are larger than any other in Europe, according to CIP.<\/p>\n<p>Together, the three systems will be able to store and supply the grid with 3GW\/h of electricity, enough to supply 4.5mn households for two hours.<\/p>\n<p>First Minister John Swinney described the investment as \u201ca significant contribution to the growth of Scotland\u2019s energy transition infrastructure\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy helping to supply reliable and secure power to our homes and businesses, well-located storage systems\u2009.\u2009.\u2009.\u2009can move us closer to net zero and directly support the communities around them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Swinney\u2019s Scottish National party administration is focusing on boosting investment into the country ahead of the May 2026 Holyrood elections. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/scotland\" data-trackable=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scotland<\/a> is open for business,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Scotland has emerged as an ideal location for battery storage, owing to a surplus of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/renewable-energy\" data-trackable=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">renewable <\/a>wind energy and constrained grid infrastructure.
