The emails have the title \u2018Your Annual Tax Summary is ready\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The emails also explain what is in the annual summary and will never ask you for personal or financial information.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"businesses-based-in-northern-ireland-who-trade-goods-with-businesses-based-in-great-britain\">Businesses based in Northern Ireland who trade goods with businesses based in Great Britain<\/h2>\n<div role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Information\" class=\"application-notice info-notice\">\n<p>From 20 January 2025 up to and including 14 March 2025, People for Research may contact you by email.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>You may receive an email from People for Research to invite you take part in research if you are a business based in Northern Ireland who trades goods with businesses based in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales).<\/p>\n<p>The email will ask you if you want to take part in a 60 minute interview with HMRC.<\/p>\n<p>In the interview you may be asked about your:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>current trading arrangements<\/li>\n<li>views and experiences of customs processes when moving goods<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This research will help to improve how HMRC supports and communicates with businesses in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>Taking part is entirely voluntary and if you do so, all responses and information given will be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>kept anonymous<\/li>\n<li>confidential<\/li>\n<li>used for research purposes only<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"businesses-selling-goods-through-online-marketplaces-in-the-uk\">Businesses selling goods through online marketplaces in the UK<\/h2>\n<p>HMRC is contacting businesses who sell goods to customers in the UK through online marketplaces. The emails refer to VAT obligations in the UK. The first email will explain why HMRC is contacting you and ask you to get in touch.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"child-benefit-claim-updates\">Child Benefit claim updates<\/h2>\n<div role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Information\" class=\"application-notice info-notice\">\n<p>From 8 July 2024, HMRC may contact you by email.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>HMRC may contact you by email if you\u2019ve made a claim for Child Benefit, to confirm that your claim has been received and is being progressed. HMRC will use the email address that you have provided. The emails have the title \u2018Thank you \u2014 we\u2019ve received your Child Benefit claim\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>These emails will never ask you for any personal or financial information.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve already contacted HMRC about Child Benefit you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/check-when-you-can-expect-a-reply-from-hmrc\" class=\"govuk-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">check the status of your claim<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>From September 2021, HMRC will send a newsletter every 6 weeks by email to the intermediary sector for example, freight forwarders, customs brokers and fast parcel operators. The emails will give the latest news affecting the intermediary sector.<\/p>\n<p>These emails will never ask you for any personal or financial information.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"employer-bulletins\">Employer bulletins<\/h2>\n<p>HMRC sends informational bulletins several times a year to employers who have registered to get them. These emails never ask you for personal or financial information.<\/p>\n<p>Emails issued by HMRC:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>may have the title \u2018Important information for employers\u2019<\/li>\n<li>have links to HMRC guidance on the GOV.UK website, including advice about online security<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"help-and-support\">Help and support<\/h2>\n<p>HMRC sends emails to customers to offer help and support. The emails will sometimes have links to online digital products such as webinars, HMRC\u2019s YouTube videos or online guides.<\/p>\n<p>These emails will never ask you for personal or financial information.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"help-to-save--paying-into-your-account\">Help to Save \u2014 paying into your account<\/h2>\n<p>HMRC may contact some customers by email who have opened Help to Save accounts. The emails will remind customers who have not paid any money into their account about the benefits of using this service.<\/p>\n<p>These emails will not ask for any personal or financial information.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"help-to-save--you-may-be-eligible\">Help to Save \u2014 you may be eligible<\/h2>\n<div role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Information\" class=\"application-notice info-notice\">\n<p>From 1 January 2025 up to and including 31 March 2027 HMRC may contact you by email.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>HMRC are sending emails to Universal Credit customers, who may be eligible, to tell them that they can open a Help to Save account and receive up to \u00a31200 tax-free bonus.<\/p>\n<p>The email will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>not ask for any personal or financial information<\/li>\n<li>signpost you to search \u2018Help to Save\u2019 on GOV.UK<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"helping-to-improve-the-govuk-website\">Helping to improve the GOV.UK website<\/h2>\n<p>Customers who sign up to help improve GOV.UK to make government services better will get emails from HMRC.<\/p>\n<p>The first email will have a link which you should follow to complete the signing up process.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have signed up, a second email will be sent that has a link to a research blog. You may then get other emails that have links to short surveys about research.<\/p>\n<p>These emails will never ask you for personal or financial information. They will also have a link to unsubscribe from future emails.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"import-and-export-data-trade-statistics\">Import and export data trade statistics<\/h2>\n<p>HMRC\u2019s Trade Statistics Unit regularly sends emails to business customers about import and export statistical data, and the related services accessed from <a rel=\"external noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uktradeinfo.com\" class=\"govuk-link\" target=\"_blank\">HMRC\u2019s trade statistics website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These have:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>business alerts<\/li>\n<li>service updates<\/li>\n<li>deadline reminders<\/li>\n<li>data quality reviews<\/li>\n<li>survey requests<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These emails may have links to more information, educational or survey content.<\/p>\n<p>They will not ask for any personal, payment or tax related information.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"list-of-customs-agents-and-fast-parcel-or-express-operators-on-govuk\">List of customs agents and fast parcel or express operators on GOV.UK<\/h2>\n<p>From September 2021, HMRC will send a monthly email about a register of customs agents and fast parcel operators on GOV.UK.<\/p>\n<p>The register is a useful tool that helps to match customs intermediaries with traders looking for support with their import and export arrangements. It is a way to show the services your business offers.<\/p>\n<p>The email will ask you to either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>keep your details up-to-date<\/li>\n<li>give your details to include in the register<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The email will have a link to the register of customs agents and fast parcel operators on GOV.UK. These emails will never ask you for personal or financial information.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"making-tax-digital-for-vat\">Making Tax Digital for VAT<\/h2>\n<p>HMRC will send an email to customers who have signed up for Making Tax Digital.<\/p>\n<p>HMRC will confirm you can submit VAT Returns within 72 hours using the email address you gave. The email will not ask you for any financial information.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"national-minimum-wage\">National Minimum Wage<\/h2>\n<p>From 1 October 2022 HMRC will send emails to offer help and support with the National Minimum Wage. The email may have links to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>online guidance<\/li>\n<li>digital forms<\/li>\n<li>webinars<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The email may also ask about your views on the National Minimum Wage. If it does, it will have a:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>link to take part in an online survey<\/li>\n<li>reference to this guidance so you can check that the email is genuine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These emails will never ask you for any personal or financial information without writing to you first.<\/p>\n<p>Customers who contact HMRC helplines will be asked if they wish to sign up to a personal tax account. Customers who do not wish to sign up by telephone will be offered more information by email.<\/p>\n<p>If you agree to give an email address, you\u2019ll be sent some information by email while you\u2019re on the telephone. The email gives background information about the benefits of signing up to a personal tax account, and how to sign up.<\/p>\n<p>The email will not ask for any personal or financial information.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"research-and-development-rd-tax-relief-support\">Research and Development (<abbr title=\"Research &amp; Development\">R&amp;D<\/abbr>) tax relief support<\/h2>\n<p>From January 2025 HMRC will send emails to customers to support them when making Research &amp; Development (<abbr title=\"Research &amp; Development\">R&amp;D<\/abbr>) claims.<\/p>\n<p>The emails will be sent following submission of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<abbr title=\"Research &amp; Development\">R&amp;D<\/abbr> claim notification<\/li>\n<li>additional information forms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The emails will differ depending on which form is being submitted, but will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>links to new and existing online guidance or details to search on the GOV.UK website<\/li>\n<li>links to HMRC YouTube videos and the new <abbr title=\"Research &amp; Development\">R&amp;D<\/abbr> Disclosure Facility<\/li>\n<li>the email address to contact if you were not aware the forms were being submitted on behalf of the company<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is no requirement to respond to these emails and they will never ask for any personal or financial information.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"research-studies-to-improve-government-services\">Research studies to improve government services<\/h2>\n<p>If you have signed up to help make <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/hm-revenue-customs\/services-information\" class=\"govuk-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">government services<\/a> better, HMRC will send you an invite by email to take part in research studies.<\/p>\n<p>The email will be headed \u2018Invitation to take part in research\u2019. You\u2019ll only get it if you meet the criteria for the research study.<\/p>\n<p>The email may have:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a link to take part in an online study<\/li>\n<li>details about a face to face event<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The email will have a:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>reference to this guidance so you can check that the email is genuine<\/li>\n<li>phone number to contact the HMRC research team if you have any concerns<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"tax-free-childcare-service\">Tax-Free Childcare service<\/h2>\n<p>HMRC\u2019s Tax-Free Childcare service regularly send emails to advise parents that they could be missing out on government contributions towards childcare costs from the UK government.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"vat-debts-reminders\">VAT debts reminders<\/h2>\n<p>HMRC may send an email to customers who are overdue with VAT payments. HMRC will use email addresses that customers have already given and will recommend that customers pay online to avoid further action. These emails will never ask you for personal or financial information.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"vat-eu-refund-service-failed-validation\">VAT EU refund service failed validation<\/h2>\n<p>Customers that use the VAT EU refunds service may get an email if their claim has failed validation. The email will give details explaining why the claim has failed.<\/p>\n<p>The emails will not ask for any personal or financial information.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"vat-registration\">VAT registration<\/h2>\n<p>HMRC will send an email to customers who have registered for VAT using HMRC online services. HMRC will use the email address customers have given to advise that they need to log into their online tax account in order to view a message in the secure messaging area.<\/p>\n<p>These emails will never ask you for personal or financial information.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"vat-registration-applications-submitted-by-agents\">VAT registration applications submitted by agents<\/h2>\n<p>HMRC may contact you by email when you\u2019ve submitted a VAT registration application that indicates you\u2019re an agent. We\u2019ll do this as we need to verify your details.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll ask you to confirm how you\u2019re operating, as well as details about your business, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>in what capacity you\u2019re submitting VAT applications<\/li>\n<li>your business details, including name, address and contact details<\/li>\n<li>your HMRC registration numbers and references<\/li>\n<li>your agent reference number<\/li>\n<li>Anti-Money Laundering Supervision (AMLS) registration details, if applicable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sending the requested details by the deadline provided will prevent your applications being delayed.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"vat-returns-reminder\">VAT Returns reminder<\/h2>\n<p>HMRC will send an email to customers to remind them when their VAT Return is due if they\u2019ve registered to get email reminders.
